July 8, 2007 Terry Painted the Barn

How'd he get up there?
How'd he do it?
Great equipment. He borrowed the contractor's hydraulic lift.

Getting the paint sprayer ready.

A ladder's not tall enough.

Got it!

And Marilyn spent all day cleaning paint and plaster spray
off the garden tub and windows.
Gretchen's on the job.
She says it's hard watching the house and the barn.

June 23, 2007 Working Hard on Hardwood

Terry painted ceilings and walls this week and the flooring guys made a good start on the red oak hardwood flooring. Finish work goes slower than framing in.
All the exterior doors are installed now so we can lock up.

Terry set up a temporary ham radio staton so he could operate Field Day.
The purpose of Field Day is for ham radio operators to test their equipment under emergency conditions to be prepared to help in the event of a national disaster. The hams make as many contacts as possible in a 24 hour period using only emergency power like generators. Usually they go to a public park or shelter and put up temporary stations and antennas. Our construction site qualified because we don't have permanent power yet. He was happy to be able to contact some of his friends in Ohio.

June 9, 2007 Dry wall is up

This is the view of our house as you approach from the west corner of our property.

The siding and windows are finished.
The workers have moved inside out of the sun.

The dry wall is almost finished. Terry will be painting soon.

The kitchen has a ways to go before I'll be doing much cooking.

The tray ceiling in the back of the living room gives it more height.
All the other ceilings are 9 feet. Plenty of room for big fans.

Terry is loading more into the barn.
It sure is handy to have lots of storage space.

Just in time because it rained today, the first day of hurricane season.

That's Philip Sheats, our contractor, doing a great job.

We've got wiring and insulation done.

This is the back of the house.
Master bdrm, 8 windows of sunroom & 3rd bdrm.

There's Marc at the front door.
He came to visit for Memorial Day weekend.

Marc is a great help.
He and Terry moved all our stuff from the storage locker into the barn.
Then Marc tried out the tractor.

Living room to the right. Dining room to the left.
All one big open room.

Gretchen's on the back porch.
It will be heated and air conditioned, so I call it my sunroom.
The window on the left is the pass through from the kitchen.
